Building a Stronger Team: Lessons from Bee Informatica’s First Team Building

From September 19 to 21, the Bee Informatica team came together in Kuantan for our first company-wide team building. More than a break from the usual routine, it was an opportunity to reflect on how we work, communicate, and grow as an organisation.

Reconnecting with Our Mission, Vision and Values

We began by revisiting three fundamental questions: Why do we exist? Where are we going? And how do we want to get there?

Vision:Unlocking the potential each person has.

Our mission is to expand access to finance. To shape how we pursue that mission, we looked at our goals from three perspectives: employees, customers, and shareholders or investors.

Integrity, transparency, accountability, and fairness emerged as key values. As a startup, innovation was also central to the discussion. This means not only creating new solutions but also continuously improving how we work, including using AI to automate processes and work more efficiently.

Director Syed also highlighted the importance of KPIs. Wanting to make an impact is not enough. We need to define what that impact looks like in measurable terms. Clear numbers help teams understand what needs to be done today, this week, and in the months ahead.

Experiencing Teamwork in Practice

The second day put teamwork into practice through activities such as a treasure hunt, tower building, and word puzzles. Each challenge required communication, cooperation, clear roles, and strategy.

Spending time together outside the usual work environment also gave everyone a chance to see different sides of their colleagues. Meals, shopping, and activities by the pool and beach created opportunities to connect beyond work. Wearing different traditional and cultural outfits for a batik-themed activity was another simple way to learn more about one another.

Turning Team Building into Workplace Improvement

The value of the experience continued after we returned to the office. We held a session where team members could openly share the challenges they were facing and discuss areas for improvement.

Creating a relaxed environment made it easier to have honest conversations. Going forward, we hope to create more opportunities for this kind of dialogue so we can identify challenges, discuss them, and turn them into practical improvements.

As Bee Informatica continues to grow, strengthening our organisation requires more than setting business goals. It also means staying connected to our Mission, Vision and Values, communicating openly, and continuously improving how we work together.
